本書蒐羅了台灣日治時期最重要的幾位作家的作品，如楊逵<新聞配達夫>、呂赫若<牛車>、龍瑛宗<植有木瓜樹的小鎮>和張文環<論語與雞>等，作品呈現出當時殖民地的支配者從反抗到逐漸屈向傾斜的台灣作家意識。 龍瑛宗，新竹北埔人，與張文環、呂赫若、楊逵，同為台灣日治時期最重要的四大作家。周金波、王昶雄、陳火泉則被認為是「皇民作家」，他們的作品多為呈現苦惱於皇民化運動下的抗日小說。 譯者宋承錫，韓國仁川出生，韓國延世大學中語中文系博士。對於日治下的台灣文學作品多有探討。

A Collection of Japanese Novels of The Period of Japanese Rule in Taiwan. Dr. Song Seung-Seok, the translator of this book, was born in In-Cheon and graduated the Chinese Literature Department of Yeonsei University. He deeply studied about the Taiwanese novels written during the Japanese rule in Taiwan. This book is a compendium of Taiwanese literature works written during the period of Japanese rule in Taiwan. Each stories, “The Newspaper Carrier” by Yang Kuei, “Hackery” by Lu He-Ruo , “Township of Papaya Plantation”, Long Ying-Chong, “The Analects of Confucius and The Chicken” by Zhang Wen-Huan are describing Taiwanese people’s emotional conflict and their gradual change from resistance to obedience toward Japanese colonization. These writers are renowned as the great writes of the Japanese Colonization period. Zhou Jin-Bo, Wang Zhang-Xiong, Chen Huo-Quanare the writers who portrays the sorrow that the Taiwanese had to suffer during the Kominka Movement.
